Empowering parents to raise their children to be substance-free

Know! provides parents (or grandparents and other caregivers) with twice monthly, FREE Know! Parent Tips via email that contain current facts about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, as well as action steps they can take to help children resist peer pressure to use.

Know! aims to increase parental:

  • Awareness that every child is at-risk for using substances;
  • Knowledge about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs;
  • Conversations with children about the importance of non-use.

Children whose parents talk early and often about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use are 50 percent less likely to use in the first place (The Partnership at Drugfree.org, 2005).

"93% of parents say that as a result of receiving Know! Parent Tips, they have learned something new about alcohol, tobacco or other drugs " - 2012 Know! Parent Survey

Receiving Know! has helped us have healthier, back-and-forth conversations about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. They aren't lengthy conversations, but they are effective.

When it comes to preventing children from drinking, smoking or using other drugs, parents are a child’s first line of defense. Know! who else has heavy influence on children? TEACHERS!

Teachers are powerful influencers in their students’ lives. What is shared in the classroom can positively impact a child’s decision not to use alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other drugs. Teachers have an incredible opportunity to guide students toward making healthy, drug-free lifestyle choices.

This is why Drug Free Action Alliance created TEACHable Moments.

TEACHable Moments are specially designed tips for teachers, sent out via email twice monthly for FREE, with news that educators can use to get those critical prevention talks started in the classroom and guiding questions to keep them going.
